팬데믹 이후로 달라진 삶의 모습은 우리에게 많은 메세지를 준다.

평범한 일상은 한 순간에 사라질 수 있고 내일에 대한 막연한 기대도 더 이상 당연하지 않다. 미래에 대한 불안과 두려움, 불신이 가득한 냉전의 시대가 도래했다.

이 상실의 시대에 삶을 사는 중요한 가치는 무엇일까? 아마도 꿈이 아닐까 생각한다. 누구나 꿈을 꾸지만 불안정한 상태로 성장하면서 현실과 타협을 하고 꿈을 잊게 된다. 하지만 꿈꾸지 않는 삶은 죽은 삶과 마찬가지라고 생각하기에 나는 꿈에 대한 이야기를 하고 싶다. 꿈은 과거의 나와 현재의 나, 그리고 미래의 나를 연결해주는 매개체이자 현재를 사는 우리에게 삶의 방향을 제시해준다고 생각한다.

꿈을 그린다는 것은 희망을 심는 것이고 존재의 의미에 대해 알아가는 과정이다. 나는 꿈을 쫓고 이루고자 하는 마음을 그림으로 담아 현재를 살아가는 누군가에게 휴식과 희망의 메시지를 전달하고자 한다.

The changed appearance of life since the pandemic gives us a lot of messages.
Ordinary daily life can disappear in an instant, and vague expectations for tomorrow are no longer natural. The era of the Cold War, filled with anxiety, fear, and distrust of the future, has arrived.
What is the important value of life in this age of loss? I think maybe it's a dream. Everyone dreams, but as they grow into an unstable state, they compromise with reality and forget their dreams. But I want to talk about dreams because I think life without dream is same as the end of life. I think dreams are a medium that connects me in the past, in the present, in the future, and they provide us with a direction of life.
To paint a dream is same as to plant a hope and to learn about the meaning of existence. I want to convey a message of rest and hope to those who are living in the present and trying to make their dreams come ture through my paintings.

김다진

작품 속 ‘Leopardfish’는 수중의 꽃이라고 불리는 물고기 베타를 재해석한 위장된 자아의 모습입니다. 이 물고기는 지느러미를 활짝 펴고 몸의 빛깔을 선명하게 만들어 자신을 보호하는데 이 모습은 본인이 강해 보이기 위해 평소 좋아하는 호피로 화려하게 치장하는 것과 닮아있고 이는 ‘내면의 드러내고 싶지 않은 모습을 감추고 싶어서 그런 것은 아닐까’라는 생각을 하게 되었습니다. ‘Leopardfish’는 본인을 나타낼 수 있는 호피와 베타의 화려한 지느러미를 같이 표현하여 재탄생 시킨 이미지로 또 다른 자아를 투영시켰습니다.

겉모습은 화려하고 강해 보이지만, 타인의 부정적인 시선을 두려워하고 쉽게 상처받는 내면은 이중적인 모습입니다. 결국 화려하게 치장된 모습은 나 자신의 진정한 모습이 아닌 무의식적으로 만들어진 사회적 가면에 불과합니다. 본인은 작품 창작을 통해서 감추기 위해 억압되었던 감정을 표현하는 것으로 스스로를 치유했습니다.

Kim Da-jin expresses herself disguised through the image of Leopardfish, which is reinterpreted with the motif of "Beta."

The Leopard Fish series started with a concern that she couldn't find her inner truely. She cared about other people and did not want to show her weakness, so makes herslef fancy.

Beta is a fish that shows its colorful appearance by spreading its fins wide when it shows aggression. This looks similar to dressing up in her favorite leopard print to look stronger, and she thinks
that Beta's habit of considering her area was similar to that of modern people, including herself.Leopardfish expresses the colorful fins of leopard and beta, which can represent itself, and projects another self image that has been reborn.
