자동차는 현대 사회를 살아가는 인간의 꿈과 희망이 단편적으로 투영되는 대표적 사물입니다. 누구나 사회생활을 시작하며 갖고 싶은 자동차를 구체화해 나갑니다. 또는 한 번뿐인 인생 중에 고가의 슈퍼카를 소유하는 꿈을 꾸기도 합니다. 자동차는 우리 삶에서 단지 운송을 담당하는 도구 이상으로 존재합니다. 자동차를 사용하는 동안 삶의 변화가 차량의 노후화와 함께 기억됩니다. 결혼식의 특별함으로 치장한 웨딩 카, 출산을 위해 병원으로 급하게 향하던 자동차, 커가는 아이들과 같이한 여행길의 수고를 마다하지 않은 패밀리 카, 자유를 꿈꾸며 떠난 외지에서 함께한 생소한 모델의 렌터카 등등 수많은 즐겁고 가슴 벅차던 기억에 자동차가 같이합니다. 자동차는 공해물질을 내뿜고 인간의 탐욕과 과시욕을 천박하게 드러내는 대상으로 취급되기도 하지만 작가는 자동차에 투영되는 인간의 삶에 대한 소박한 꿈과 즐거운 기억을 이미지로 표현하고 싶어 합니다. 

사물을 소유하는 행동은 기능의 필요성과 물질적 충족감뿐만 아니라 타인과의 비교에서 비롯될지 모릅니다. 하지만 그 사물은 내 행동의 대상이었으며 그 행동을 기억나게 하는 중개자입니다. 성찰하는 인간이라면 새로움보다 과거의 기억이 더 소중할 것입니다. 새로운 첨단의 기능과 그럴싸한 시각적 만족, 그리고 경제적 풍요가 인간의 욕망을 더욱 강화시키곤 합니다. 반면에 작은 것에 대한 감각과 심성을 무력하게 하고 행복한 감정을 유발하는 소소한 과거의 기억을 빈약하게 만들기도 합니다. 우리는 그런 시류에 편승하거나 떠밀려 살아가고 있는 건 아닐까요?

자동차를 소유하는 행위는 가장 큰 물질 소비활동에 해당합니다. 새로움과 편리성, 첨단의 기능만을 생각한다면 자동차는 물질 만능의 현대 사회에서 소비적 대상이 될 뿐입니다. 하지만 자동차와 함께한 소소한 일상의 기억을 즐겁고 따듯하게 복원한다면 단순한 소비를 뛰어넘는 인간성 회복의 감정을 갖게 되지 않을까 기대합니다. 오래된 자동차 모델, 화면에 산재한 낙서 같은 드로잉, 채색의 구축과 긁기를 통한 해체로 구성된 회화적 성과물이 과거의 기억을 불러오는 촉매제가 되고 긴장감이 없는 편안한 느낌을 감상자에게서 불러일으키면 좋겠습니다.

Automobiles are representative objects that reflect the dreams and hopes of humans living in modern society in fragments. Everyone begins their social life and embodies the car they want. Or I dream of owning an expensive supercar in my one-time life. Cars are more than just a transport tool in our lives. Changes in life while using a car are remembered with the aging of the vehicle. Many pleasant and heart-warming memories include wedding cars decorated with specialties of weddings, cars rushing to hospitals to give birth, family cars that do not hesitate to travel with growing children, and rental cars of unfamiliar models from outside the country dreaming of freedom. Cars are sometimes treated as shallow objects that emit pollutants and reveal human greed and desire to show off, but the artist wants to express simple dreams and pleasant memories of human life projected on cars with images.


The behavior of owning an object may result from the need for function and material satisfaction as well as the comparison with others. But the object was the object of my action and the intermediary who remembers the action. If you are a reflective human being, memories of the past will be more precious than novelty. New cutting-edge functions, plausible visual satisfaction, and economic affluence often strengthen human desires. On the other hand, it also weakens the memories of the past, which impairs the sense and mind of small things and induces happy feelings. Aren't we jumping on that bandwagon or being pushed around?


Owning a car is the biggest material consumption activity. If you only consider new, convenient, and cutting-edge functions, automobiles are only a consumable object in a materialistic modern society. However, I hope that if you restore the small daily memories with cars to a pleasant and warm state, you will have a feeling of humanity recovery beyond simple consumption. It would be nice if the paintings, which consist of old car models, graffiti-like drawings scattered on the screen, and deconstruction through the construction and scratching of colors, could be a catalyst for memories of the past and create a comfortable feeling without tension.
